About Me Hello friends, I started writing poetry while along the road to “healing”, fairly late in life. I am a survivor of a dysfunctional childhood. During my working life I was a Legal Secretary then changed careers and became a Nursing Assistant. I taught creative writing and poetry at the University of the Third Age for a few years. I’m moderator for the group Helena’s Blue Rose Café here at Writers Café. I’ve been a member for many years. I run contests for the group and from time to time post courses that I think may be of help to writers. I am a volunteer for the R.S.P.C.A. and also a Reiki practitioner. I have participated in 12 step programs including; Emotions Anonymous Co-Dependants Anonymous Al-Anon for families of Alcoholics Adult Children of Alcholics Studied Child Inner Healing All wonderful programs to help one along the path to inner healing. I was baptised Christian. as a premature baby I was not expected to live. Although never encouraged in that, I have over the years studied the following religions in search of Spiritual fulfillment. Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, New Age and have come to the conclusion that we are all looking for "God", or a Higher Power", no matter which religion we choose or choose not to believe. I took many wonderful things from each 'religion' and taken on board some of their teachings. I guess you could call me a "Univeralist" although I am not affiliated with any church of that nature in fact don't know anything about their teachings. (Another one to study!) I abhor abuse and cruelty in any shape or form. Especially domestic abuse! And my heart bleeds for the children of this world who will never survive their childhood, let alone know any freedom in their lifetime. Its a priviledge to be here at such a wonderful Cafe.
