About Me![]() by Ralph Waldo Emerson < Issue number 1: Recent events have made this missive necessary. I had hoped to avoid this, but WC is not what it used to be. From this moment forward, I will only accept active friends. That means you give and you get. If you want me to read your work, you will read mine as well. I will be checking my friends' list on a monthly bases for blocked RRs, and unless I know why you've blocked reader requests, I will delete you. I am tired of getting requests to read and then sending my requests out only to find out that RRs are blocked. Issue number 2: If I see a reason for it, I write constructive criticism. If you do not want help to be a better writer and only want praise for a mediocre piece of work, the DO NOT send me read requests. I am sick of this group that is hounding real reviewers like WC is some kind of Nazi death camp. You don't want real reviews, then keep your work to yourself. Issue number 3: Some good friends of mine have been dragged under the gutter recently. Those who feel that the world must know by sending RRs to the offensive peoples pages will be blocked by me if it happens again. I do not join bandwagons and I will not participate in gossip. If you don't like what someone says to you, grow a set of balls and block them, but for heaven's sake stop balling about it to all your friends and dragging innocent bystanders into your pity parties. Issue number 4: If you disagree with anything I have posted here, by all means, unfriend me or block me, but keep your whining to yourself. I was born in a small railroad town on June 20, 1966. My father worked at a rubber plant and my mother stayed home with me and my two siblings. I was born in the middle, and yes I have all of the middle child syndrome symptoms. Not much fun. I began writing when I was around 7 or 8, mostly creating my own myth stories. I began writing poetry when I was 10 as a way to escape my brother's nosy eyes. Every diary I'd kept would go from his hands to my mother's hands and then I'd end up in huge trouble. But once I started writing everything in poetry form, he stopped looking at them. I've been addicted to poetry ever since. From 1991 until 1999, I went to college. I gained an AAS (Associates in Art and Science), a BA in English, and a MALS (Masters in Art and Liberal Science). Those were my heydays and I have no idea how I managed to make it through all of those years. I must have been on an incredible manic high. I am bipolar and tend to write about my dis-ease and the effects of being Bipolar. I do my best to give people a real look at how Bipolar affects people and I promote mental illness as openly as possible. The more hidden it remains, the less people know about it and the less help someone with a mental illness will get. It would seem that I am getting the reputation of The Mourning Poet. I guess my work is a bit melancholy and mournful at times. Apparently lots of times for this reputation to have started. I don't mind it at all. You have been warned though as to what you might get yourself into if you read my work. Writing has always been my canvas and poetry my paintbrush. My muses whisper beautiful colors in my ear and I create them into a masterpiece of my own design. I tend to write freestyle most of the time; however, I do occasionally write blank poetry, prose poetry and in alliteration as in the poem, A Near~Miss. I also write short fiction, essays, essays on writing and have been working on a few novellas and novels of late. You will often see me dedicate work to Catharine or Evelyn. They are my muses and although some would say they are merely voices in my deranged mind, I must protest. They are as real to me as any human and I know their faces as surely as I know my own. On rare occasion, You will see me mention my Anima, Stefano. He is the soul, the psyche, the masculine to my feminine. And yes, like my muses, he has a voice. Who is Iona Nerissa? This is my pseudonym. In the 90s, I wrote most of my poetry and some fiction under that name. Iona Nerissa represents breaking free from bondage. I felt liberated in the 90s and was attending Hollins College at the time. Such fond memories...
