About Me

Mirza Sharafat Hussain Beigh is fourth generation poet born into a traditional elegy writer's family dating back their history of composing elegiac poetry to 1900 CE. Born in Daulat Abad, Srinagar, Mirza Sharafat is well acclaimed by new generation as an Urdu free verse poetry writer. Mirza earned his name even more after releasing poetry account from his office, that paid tributes to Husayn ibn Ali in a lucid elegiac style. He writes mostly in Urdu where subject remains romance. However, pains of separation are also expressed in most of poems. Mirza has also written number of poems in English collated by Sabrena Agha in a collection famously known as Letters In Grief.
Besides Mirza belongs to a veteran Shitte Mirza Beigh family known for elegy writing in Kashmir, where the poet himself got involved in 2012. As a part of legacy he didn't imbibe his ancestral traits, but writing and reciting elegies were innate. Mirza Sharafat recites nauhas in central contingent of zuljanah,
with Grand Muharram Processions of Kashmir Valley.
