Details

Send TOH your best flash fiction, poetry, essay, prose, non-fiction article, or writing exercise, on the theme of "Fads, Ageisms, & Generations"...

Please interpret this theme in any way including being creative and using your imagination. It is meant to be loosely interpreted; I can’t wait to see all of the different ideas you come up with.

Who is TOH?
The Other Herald is published quarterly. It "heralds" good writing and art, and offers articles, writing exercises/prompts, etc. of interest to writers. TOH has been published since 2006, and was monthly for some time. We just celebrated our 50th issue, out in Oct. 2011!

Find out more about TOH on the web site: http://www.otherherald.com
including how to purchase a sample issue, if desired. Inform yourself so you can feel comfortable that we are a valid publication. Winning pieces MAY be published in a future issue of TOH themed "Fads, Ageisms, & Generations" in 2012. That's the plan.

THIS CONTEST IS OPEN TO YOUR POEMS (20 lines or less, shorter poems preferred), FLASH FICTION, VERY SHORT FICTION (stories of a half page typed or less), SHORT ARTICLES (ten paragraphs or so), PROSE or ESSAY (same length stipulation), etc.

PLEASE keep the work clean because this publication is not drawn to pieces of writing which are full of adult content or lots of f-bombs. Swearing for the sake of swearing doesn't make me happy, nor do explicit references used when the writer could do better by hinting at things or being more tasteful and the scene still be conveyed. Indirect references are usually okay. Nothing my grandmother would call smut, okay? Thanks...

I will contact you if I need to edit in any manner, other than punctuation or spelling errors, before publication.

You can contact me if you have questions: [email protected] or as a convo to TFRice on Writers' Cafe.

Writers whose work appears in TOH will receive one free copy of the issue in which their work appears.

Subscribing is in no way required, however, we encourage it; we are a steal at $10 per year! A little gem to brighten up your day! Small enough to be read on a lunch break or while waiting in line, so it will never sit in a pile of unread magazines...(hey, I have one of those piles at MY house.) Treat yourself!!

Best of all, let's keep this contest's submissions ON TOPIC and not overly lengthy. Being a small publication, short fiction, articles and poems are coveted.

Note: If you are a winner, you will be contacted requesting your name and the state you live in, in order to list the winners in the issue of TOH. (I do not list user names with the names.) This is not demanded, but suggested, if you want to get actual recognition for your writing placing in the contest.

Please set up your Writerscafe account so that you get notifications via email of new messages, if you don't plan to check your account very often. I have had to use Writerscafe user name for several winners over time, which I'm sure they were sorry for when they finally read my message asking for the name they wanted included in the issue. At least one was a winner whose work appeared in the issue, and I had to use their user name, so PLEASE check your account every couple of weeks, or set up your email notifications so that you don't totally abandon Writerscafe and miss learning you are placed in a contest.

Enter the contest with your best poems/articles/fiction etc. on the theme of "Fads, Ageisms, & Generations"! Good luck, everyone!

Prizes

Publication of your writing in a year-2012 issue of THE OTHER HERALD, and a free copy of the issue your work appears in.
