Hold My Attention  August 6, 2013 - August 23, 2013

Reading and Deliberating

Details

I am a very tough reader.

Forget plot, characters, whatever. If I read the first paragraph of a story and think the writing style's not up to par, I won't continue. It's not a matter of judgment, I just find it quite difficult to get into stories if the grammar and sentence structure and technical things aren't as good as I like, even if their actual content is brilliant. For this reason, I find it tiresome to browse sometimes when I open story after story that I give up after a few sentences.

So, I challenge you now. Send in your best stories, but I can only guarantee that I will read the first few sentences. Winners will be judged firstly to those that draw me in until the end, then secondly to how good the story itself is. Enter as many as you like (or as many as the site will allow you) and as long as you like--but remember that numbers and length won't make much difference if you don't keep me reading.

Can you hold my attention?
