Romantic with a capital R  July 11, 2008 - July 30, 2008

Reading and Deliberating

Details

Please send me your poetry that most embodies the spirit of the Romantic period.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS DOES NOT MEAN SIMPLE ROMANCE. This is Romanticism with a capital R. Poetry that is only about romance or love will be disqualified.

The Romantic period in literature was a reaction to the Neo-Classicist period that preceded it, a period that was dominated by reason and structure. The Romantics decided that literature (and art) should be more about the release of emotions and made art a much more individual thing. Thus, The Romantics relied heavily on the following (so elements of one or more of these should appear in your poetry):

- expressionism
- the imagination
- nature
- sublimity

Have fun writing! As always, I'll try to review everyone's work.
