Synesthetes percieve the spatial and emotional word in a very different way from what's deemed 'normal' sensory impulses.
Synesthesia is a neurologically-based condition in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway.
In simpler terms, for those of us who've been diagnosed, perception is multilayered. Colors can be perceived as sound, and music can be seen in color, while a concept may take on a conversational personality. Snow on a roof on a bright winter day will scream. And a moon beam, for some of us, has actual flavor.
Inside the body of this contest, you, dear poets are challenged to step sideways from your 'normal' neurosensory impulses and step inside the mind of a synsthete, and create a poetic through altered perceptions.
