I like to write pieces about how people are in their mental states.
Write a piece poem/story/book/etc. on a character going through a difficult situation. Write how they would really think. Or how you would feel in that situation.

EXAMPLE: Your humiliated in front of your co-workers by your boss. The same day your boss is murdered and the killer rubs your bosses blood all over all the co workers that laughed at your humiliation. How would you feel? What would you do?

Little extreme but you get it.
