Woman, Man or Human?  April 22, 2013 - June 27, 2013

Reading and Deliberating

Details

I am looking for writing about feminism, men's rights, rebellion against traditional gender roles, sexual assault (men and women), etc.

If you are wondering why I included men's rights, watch this video:

I am currently reading The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan and that partially inspired this contest, along with my ongoing interest in feminism. I also get really annoyed by the way media likes to generalize by gender with articles that specifically address men or women on issues that depend on the person more than the gender, like "Annoying Facebook Habits That Guys Hate."

I think feminism and men's rights are very complex issues and I would love to know what you think about these two movements or either of them. Women and men always seem to be in conflict over rights, but I think equality should be the aim. We are humans before we are male and female.

I'll accept anything but NOVELS. I'm not the fastest reader and that is too much for me. It takes me ages just to get through one book, let alone ten.

I've decided to end the contest on Helen Keller's birthday. She was mostly famous for helping people with disabilities but she was also a suffragist.

“The welfare of each is bound up in the welfare of all.”
-- Helen Keller
