What is a haiku? A haiku is a Japanese form of poetry consisting of three lines with

1st line: 5 syllables
2nd line: 7 syllables
3rd line: 5 syllables

a different number of syllables for each line. Haikus are often written about nature, and can be extremely effective to improve your poetry skills, and other poems with syllable requirements, such as cinquains, should be easier when you learn how to bend words to fit your syllable requirements.
