Read some Experimental Fiction.

Take a look any of the stories at Exclusive Magazine, or the individual ones listed at Experimental Writing. Maybe look into more of those author's work online, or at some of the other authors listed at Experimental Writing, or at the magazines there. Familiarize yourself with some of the ways authors have pushed past the inertia of default story-telling.

Study how they use language in fresh ways, vivid imagery, inventive structures, entertaining surprises, emotion inducing endings, and intellectually stimulating concepts. Learn by reading their work, and their writing about their work in Exclusive.
