My servant friend, Nikko, comes for me. Unknown to me there are servant's passages, hidden between the walls, that allow the servants to come and go without being seen. It is likely that the assassins used these same passages to gain access to the castle and take my parents' lives. However, now, with the Help of Nikko, they would be my salvation.

We make for a well disguised door in the wall near to my own chamber door. With a slight press of a rose petal, the door unhinges and reveals an unlit path that leads to pitch colored darkness.

Guided only by the knowing hands and feet of my servant friend, the long dark and winding path gives way to a circular stone stairwell landing, lit dimly with a small pitch torch. Nikko points to a hole in the wall.

"There, milord, there is your freedom."

"And yours as well Nikko." We take each other by the hand and as we enter the dark hole that gives way to a stone slide. And with a lurch in our stomachs, the slide took us to the caves that lay buried beneath my ancestral home.
