Smashwords is an excellent free site--also, Amazon (kindle direct publishing).

Start with a well edited book that has been sent through a spell and grammar check on a word processing program like word. It has been calculated that a good price is 3 cents per thousand words. Longer books, from 50,000 to 100,000 words or more, sell best, although short works of just 2,000 words can sell well. A good cover is important, as is formatting. Mark's List is available through Smashwords. This lists vendors for covers and for formatting. I will show here a cover for one of my most popular ebooks. I had to revise it several times.

If your spelling and grammar is terrible, don't expect to sell your books, unless you specialize in graphic erotica, which is pathetic, and not really good literature. Opt for good dialogue which is funny. The more amusing the better, no matter what genre, in my opinion. It heals all bad fiction.
