I have just seen and clicked on an ad here on the site for the "Writers (sic) Literary Agency". This is the same agency that used to go by the name of "The New York Literary Agency". DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. IT IS A SCAM. ( I have had experience!)

It is one guy in Florida who suckers wannabe authors in with an online agency promising greatness. No one actually reads the work, but the process is such that the writer will be passed through several levels of entry, eventually to be praised for their work and granted access to an agent. There are no agents. The writer is then asked to show their commitment to the process by paying for editing and proofreading services which are in reality just programs like spellcheck which automatically spit out basic errors.

Please be on your guard, the net is full of idiots like this.

Thanks for the warning!

I have a question as regards the best area to desire a Literary Agent.  If you live in the midwest, like me, would it be best to have one here?  Or, if one decides on an agency on the west coast, or, say New York, would that not be a wise idea?  Or, does it not really make any difference where your agency is based? 

As a general rule of thumb, if an agent asks for money up front, he is a fraud. Legit agents only take a % of the money you make off sales of the book

 sent something to them a long time ago. They asked for money, so i stopped talking to them. Good to know i was right to leave.
