Gather.com is working with Touchstone/Simon & Schuster Books to bring you the First Chapter Writing Contest. Think of it as American Idol for writers, you upload the first chapter of your manuscript, readers vote through the best ones, and then you upload two more chapters.

The editors at Touchstone/Simon & Schuster will pick the winning manuscript, publish the book, give the author $5,000 and a publishing contract.

yeah, you do have to submit the entire book to enter. ::cool:: I wanted to just post some randomness but thay wont let. bah :)

I'd love to, but there is a slight problem:You have to be 18 or older to enter......::cry:: Me, being 11, have many doors closed to me, so this is just another letdown....

Oy I want to do this, but my manuscript is just so not ready for this kind of exposure, I havent even gotten a chance to get with my editor... Egads.

Yeah. It's over. Or, the first round is over, you can't enter anymore. Maybe next year.

Indeed. Of course, don't put too much stock in the contest. There is too much room for manipulation by people who just want to see other writers fail.
Just try to get published the old fashioned way.
