I screamed in terror as a giant, red monster emerged from the concrete paving of the street. I dropped my school books and stared in horror. I was transfixed to the spot, taking in his well sculpted torso and the sheer rage on his face. He arose slowly, with malevolence oozing out from his pores. His arms swinging around wildly and a tail which refused to stay still. Small, sinuous flames were emanating from his arms.
Within seconds, he was out of the hole and standing on the street a scant five feet away from me. My legs refused the command from mind to move and I was still rooted to the spot. I was alone on the street. It was almost 7 in the evening and I had been returning home from a friend's place. I looked around. The place I'm now in is one of the deserted old parts of town and had only three houses on each side of the street. No one had lived in them for years. They were just crumbling, two storied structures that I passed by everyday with less than a cursory glance.
A loud roar from the monster startled me out of my reverie. He was looking at me with eyes that seethed malice. He started to grunt and my eyes desperately scanned around for escape routes. Hardly anyone used this path as it was in the less crowded part of town. The chances of someone stumbling upon us right now were one in a billion. Going back the way I came was out of question because it would take me more than five minutes to reach the connecting street....
Another large roar from him made the ground around me vibrate. My body shook and my heart beats sounded like war drums. My mind was now paralyzed by fear and my thinking process had halted. I just stared at the creature before me. He was over ten feet tall and was walking toward me. When he was less than a foot away from where I stood, he placed a hand over my shoulder. His hand was raging hot and I felt as if someone had poured melted wax on my shoulder. I screamed once again and then he clamped his giant palm on my mouth. My mouth felt hot as well and my screaming stopped. I was in too much pain from the heat to do anything.
I suddenly started feeling tired. All I could see now were the beast's fiery, yellow eyes that seemed to be piercing into my soul. My body felt like it was on flames. My shoulders drooped. I lost my balance and fell to the ground. My eyes were closed and there was only darkness...
I suddenly found myself standing in front of my house. What was that all about? What am I doing back home? Where did the monster go? Am I dead? Am I...
Suddenly the front door of my house opened and my mother came out. There was panic on her face but the moment she saw me, it quickly gave way to relief.
"Oh, thank God, you're back home safe," she said. "In the afternoon while leaving, instead of your cough medicine I had mistakenly given your father's medicines. The doctor said they might cause hallucinations..."
