Looking for community and support

After far too long thinking about it, I am finally going to write that novel (or at least a first draft). With that aim in mind, an idea mapped out and fingers itching to get started I sat down at my laptop and realized I simply can't do it alone.
As an expat Brit living in a non English speaking country it was immediately apparent that the internet was my only real option. A few minutes of googling brought me to "WritersCafe", for no other reason then the name seemed the friendliest title on the list. Now I am here though I need a bit of a helping hand finding my way about. My problem is that I know exactly what I want, but no idea where to find it, or if it even exists.
What I am looking for is a group where I can meet like minded people to provide mutual support and encouragement in the day to day drudgery of trying to hammer out that first draft. At this point I am not really looking to share excerpts or discuss plot points, just a place for mutual encouragement accountability and some regular human contact with others in the same situation.
Should I join an existing group or start a new one? Is it better to be part of a large group or a small one? Can anyone recommend any group/groups for me to check out.
All hints, tips and suggestions gratefully received. |
