Humans

Humans are by far the most abundant race on Alverin, spanning from the icy eastern shores of Plegia to the tropics of Lielara. However, humanity can be considered young by the standards of some other races at only 6500 years or so; yet they have accomplished  feats of all kinds within that time. The majority of human nations maintain relatively good and stable relations with their non-human counterparts, although some are more frigid then others. However, the nations of Oihani and Eajane are incredibly unfriendly to the neighbouring Silvan nation of Erimoor. While these nations have been at each other's throats for centuries, such conflicts have largely failed to impact world-wide Human-Elf relations. Recently, several terrorist attacks have occurred throughout humanity's nations; most notably in the nations of Plegia, Wyvernholt, Pryholt and, disastrously, Eajane. A group known has the Sons of Vilendral (the name of the ancient Silvan empire) has taken responsibility, although many doubt they are capable of launching so many attacks especially on nations like Plegia and Wyvernholt. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen whether the group gains the support of the Silvan people or not.

Fay

Fay, or wood elves, are the most well-known and largest group of elves on Alverin. Once ruling over much of the continent, the Fay now hold only the nations of Erimoor and Ielava to their name. While at first resenting humans and nephilim for stealing their empire from them, these feelings have largely dissipated over the centuries to the point where these races interact with each relatively peacefully. Of course, such feelings of resentment have bubbled up from time to time, the most disastrous of which led to the War Of The Four Corners between the nations of Erimoor and Vinaeda versus Oihani and Eajane that resulted in the sinking of the Erimoorian city of Vaes and the partial destruction of Eajane's capital Ozryn. Since then, the three nations (Vinaeda has largely made peace with Eajane and Oihani, much to Erimoor's disappointment) have been at each other's throats both openly and covertly. However, peace between Oihani and Erimoor may have been reached thanks to the marriage between Lady Anwen, daughter of a high-ranking Oihani noble, and Lord Spring, the son of Erimoor's greatest general. Despite this marriage years ago, it is unclear whether it has had any affect. Nevertheless, Erimoor is still the seat of Fay culture on Alverin and hosts the legendary ruins of Ansarad, where the supposed Four Seasons Prophecy was foretold, crafted and written by the Firstborne.

Nephilim

Nephilim are the offspring of Humans and Fay, first created during the early interactions between the two races. Nephilim were instrumental in toppling the Silvan Empire, acting as spies and emissaries to independent human and Elven tribes. While hailed as heroes after those tumultuous times, many have largely forgotten the part the these half-elves played. Despite this, Nephilim have proved themselves time and again to both humans and their former enemies the Fay. Nephilim scientists, scholars and engineers have made great advancements in the fields of automaton, flight, steam power, magic utilization and even warfare (it is believed that a Human magi and a Nephilim scientist created the first instances of gunpowder and tried to apply it to practical applications). However, many Nephilim are distributed throughout the nations of Alverin with the only heavy concentration being located on the islands of Naetys in the city of Volantis. Nephilim have also been involved in several important seats of government (Plegia, Alverin's largest nation, even had a Nephilim ruler on the throne for a time, although this fact was hidden from everyone but the ruler's closet advisers), further cementing good relations between the world's races and the half elves.

Firstborne

Not much is really known about the Firstborne, not even their true name. However, it is agreed by many scholars and historians that this race certainly was powerful or at the very least widespread and mobile; cities either believed to be Firstborne or linked to them have been found everywhere from the frozen wastes of Lienos to the deserts of Naetys. Records attributed to the Firstborne, while ancient and scarce, have nonetheless been extremely informative. This wealth of info, however slight, led to the massive increase in technological advancement across the world. Few intact Firstborne cities and temples still stand; of those that do the most notable are the Plegian city of Aeropa and the cathedral complex of Ansarad in southern Erimoor. The greatest mystery of this race is where they went and why they left. A partial answer can be seen in constant reference to something called the Ziralen Complex in several recovered Firstborne texts. However, many scholars are stumped by what the Ziralen Complex could be, with guesses ranging from a still-undiscoverd city of unmatched power & wealth to some sort of device. While many have searched for clues to this place or item in vain, answers or at least hints are believed to be contained within the Four Seasons Prophecy discovered in Ansarad.

Nymphs

Nymphs are an enigmatic race, who keep their secrets close and their knowledge closer. Many nymphs are wandering nomads and are renowned for their grace and beauty. Unfortunately, this inherent grace and beauty has made some nymphs targets for slavers; although many victims of this slavery come from the nomadic tribes rather than those nymphs that live within cities (although cases of nymphs kidnapped from cities are rare it is not unheard of). At a time when magic has largely died out and been replaced by technology as a means of things like transportation and small-time construction, nymphs are still believed to possess incredible magic abilities (in actuality select few are born with these abilities but they are incredibly strong and versed in the art as a result) and are sought out by everyone from intellectuals to wannabe magi. Such interactions usually end in disappoint for the inquiring party however, as nomadic nymph clans limit contact with humans and elves as much as possible and stubbornly refuse to teach their ways to outsiders. While some may see nymphs as a sub-race of elves, they are in fact their own completely separate race; their true origins are only really known to nymph elders however. Their appearance also differ from elves as well, with the majority having light green eyes, tan skin and mossy green hair. Urban nymphs are much more comfortable and used to humans and elves than their nomadic counterparts, although these nymphs stick closer to latter. Indeed, the largest population of urban nymphs in Alverin resides within Erimoor and it's capital of Myr. Intriguingly, it is widely rumoured the the White Thief of Erimoor, a thieving legend, is a nymph.

Daemonis

Daemonis fall into two classes: the Lux and the Tenebris. The Lux class of Daemonis are largely non-harmful and friendly towards the other races of Alverin, if a bit mischievous. Many Lux daemonia have actually assisted both humans and elves in the past in everything from wars to politics. While still looked at wearily by some humans and elves, Lux daemonia mean no ill will towards the two races, if at all. Tenebris class daemonia, however, are a much different story. While few and far between, those Tenebris daemonia encountered have been incredibly destructive and malicious, devastating whole towns with a single strike. As with most beings of this nature, Tenebris daemonia range in size, with the biggest towering hundreds of metres high. The smallest (ie human/elf-sized) tenebris are by far the most dangerous. While written about in several ancient human and elven texts (even some mention of them has been found in Firstborne tomes), these regular sized tenebris have rarely, if ever, been seen by any living human or elf. Their abilities, however, are the stuff of legend. The most dangerous of these tenebris is named as The Light Bringer, supposedly able to wipe out entire armies with the snap of his fingers. Some have proposed the the Ziralen Complex, theorized by some to have caused the Firstborne's disappearance, is or was actually a weapon created to deal with The Light Bringer in some proposed war that could have lead to the vanishing of the Firstborne. As no tenebris of any type has been seen in centuries, many believe the these daemonia are a myth.
