Chosen in foreign Nation

Present generation, Kenya and in the US, is lucky to be alive in a time that will be subject to scrutiny by all and sundry for a long time. Not because of technological advancement in arms race, computer or space race. But it is because of an occurrence that share similar characteristics with one that occurred for over 6000 yrs ago.  Evidently, this was most widely covered of events around the globe in our time. Most unlikely of person transcending culture, social status, and even race to ascend to highest political position in a country which is not their own is by no means a small feat. This is by reason of election of Barack Obama as US President. Election of  Barack Obama, whose late father was Kenyan from Luo tribe, as the US president is by far as eventful in this century as it is to stand out even in bygone centuries.

Most cradled also, is an all-time ancient happenings where it is told of Joseph who was sold to slavery by his brethren in Egypt and who later became the second most powerful person in Egypt after Pharaoh. In so much as we would hold or dismiss these as fairy tales, similar one in person of Obama has happened in our time. This is ultimate  occasion that we could ever think or hope for in our wildest dreams. The dual exploits of Joseph and Obama share interesting comparison. This is food for thought down the throat, to both the Intellects in all their dialects, and to thinkers and in their smarts not tinkered.

The holy bible depict a God speaking once and of his subjects therein hearing twice. In our times, we still have one God inspiring two realities. We have lived to witness twice by way of oration in Joseph’s case and by eye-witness in Obama’s case. Well, so openly is it rendered that dream is the channel most befitting the creator chooses to relay the message to his people. Joseph and Barack lives and exploits are outrightly a product of dreams as it were. Joseph occasionally overburdened his brethren with his dreams of stars bowing before him. This was interpreted to mean that Joseph would be the leader among his brethren. This was the beginning of trouble for Joseph, attracting the worst of treatment from his elder brother that culminated to his being sold to slavery in Egypt. On the other hand, Barack obama is said to be living the dream of Dr Martin Luther King’s famous speech “I have a Dream”. King, in his ‘dream speech’ discoursed about a nation where skin color would not be yardstick in judging character of person. This is a statement born in the wave of sentimentalism that hard rocked the US. Civil rights movement led by Luther in the wake of racial aggression unto the minority black strove for level ground for the whites, black and colored in all social, economical and political frontiers.

Talking of leadership out of crisis in the time that they (Egypt and US) were superpowers, failing to make mention of the two names, Barack and Joseph, is an omission in history to be frowned upon. Fate had them prepared for the worst as they hoped for the best for their resident countries. It’s said that hard times calls for desperate measures. And so did the two nations, Egypt and US, found themselves in. The US, threatened to be torn apart, had Barack with his well developed oratorical skills to gave speeches that could bring people together. The king of Egypt was desperate for not only a dream interpreter but also perfect expert in organizational management out crisis. Most assuredly, Joseph exquisitely delivered to this needs.

Making mention of their names is synonymous to overcoming all negativity and adversity to clinch the best and highest. Both had to endure tough times during their time as youth in dealing with their not-so-ordinary identities. Whilst Joseph had to deal with rejection by his brothers because of his unique vision and dreams, Barry (as barrack was popularly known in his youth) had to deal with double racial identity.

Native controversy notwithstanding, President Obama and Prime Minister Joseph, against all odds did they circumvent such an awful political and social environments as had never been before. They undoubtedly offered hope in an otherwise fraught leadership crisis their resident countries  were undergoing. It is Joseph who offered a master plan on how to stay put in the midst of severe famine. So profound was his wisdom that other nations did come to seek refuge in Egypt causing him to re-unite with His father and His brethren. On the other hand Barack was certainly the most preferred candidate to turn around an otherwise down-spiraling economy and easing racial tensions. Most cradled in the media was a massive credit crunch that gripped financial institutions in the In US and that exposed an untamed greediness by insurance bosses that ate up social security savings for the retired. Barack Obama administration is hailed for having increased insurance medical cover  by over 19% in his 2-term as  the president. Besides, most loathed was the US that some did ascribe 9/11 attack on the world trade center to US oppressive foreign policy. Barack Obama is credited for having restored friendly relations with otherwise nations which they strained relations with.

History does repeat itself with reincarnation of events in a somewhat hideous and twisted form. It may not be direct, but to the keenest observer, it’s an absorbing endeavor. Study of history can be mind-blowing at times when comparative profiles point to interesting concepts, ideas or even timelines.
