Memoir Authors

Do you have a favorite memoir author? Who? Why? What is it about their style that you appreciate?

Augusten Burroughs for his humor and honestly. I met him recently and he is a genuinely nice person. A real pleasure to meet him. I have read all his books.

David Sedaris. In a word, hysterical. “Me Talk Pretty one Day” had me laughing out loud so much I had to stop reading to catch my breath. Never read this one on a plane, they’ll think you’re crazy.

I have always admired memoir authors who are daring, or who have lives worth writing about. A few that I particularly enjoy are Isabel Allende, Issak Dinensen, Augusten Burroughs, and Loung Ung. I also enjoy writing by spiritual seekers who are unafraid to face their inner critic.

What is it that makes a good memoir writer? I am currently looking into getting my memoir published. I would like some ideas if any of you have any.

Thanks
