A snippet of patchwork

I am having trouble creating the vision I want with this piece.  This is what I am trying to say:   An old woman is making a quilt, sewing patchwork stars, by lamplight. As she is looking through the scraps, she finds an old piece of calico.  This triggers a memory from years and years before.  She can see with crystal eyes back in time to when that scrap was new and whole. Someone (maybe her daughter, maybe herself, I don't know) is twirling, twirling in a dress made from that rosebud calico.  In the vision of the memory, the skirt is flaring out as she spins in sunshine.  Do you all have any suggestions that might make this piece flow better and also show what the old lady sees in her mind (and feels in her heart) when she holds that old scrap?  I write using as few words as possible.  I try to use as much imagery as I can so a picture is created for the reader.  Thank you for any help!  Angi~
