Are there really only 4 diehard SciFi writers?

Damn!  I feel so old!  I was alive during the golden age of sci fi and now all I see is fantasy, horror, and poetry! (huduhduhduh!). 

Is there no hope for Algernon? Has the blue horizon jumped it's last ship?  Will we never hear from Barrayar again?  Is the language too hard for the children? Can no one understand my references?...
