The major influences on my writing are:
Jack Kerouac
Charlie Parker
Vincent Van Gogh
Shel Silverstein
My loving girlfriend, Reilly, who supports me and tells me I'm doing something worth while, even when I doubt it.

I think my big ones are Douglas Adams, Alexandre Dumas, Ernest Hemingway, and Stephen Sondheim. People who say a lot without having to write very much really tends to impress me.

I read all of Douglas Adams' books when I was younger, great stuff! I still have them and read through them every now and then, especially the Dirk Gently books. Ernest Hemingway was an early influence on me as well when I first started writing and exploring literature. The simplicity, like you mentioned, really captured me. It seems like such a straight forward style but it's difficult to master.
