Last week I suggested writing of someone who lives on the outskirts of town. Many of these exercises will be about writing up people. As you write about the physicality of the town, or its geography, it should lead to writing of the people who live there. For this one write of one business person, on entrepreneur, who owns a business with a unique sign or building aspect. For instance, in Cascade, WI, a garage has half a car on the office roof that looks like it is smashing out of the wall of the attached garage. The people who build these have some unique ideas. Show that.

I have been writing for each of the exercises, but find, again, that I have pieces, nothing at all complete. I have several character sketches, really. I encourage you to continue to do this, however. From the sketches eventually more develops. I am already seeing potential for conflicts between characters, which eventually should drive a story or two. Also keep in mind that Dickens
