First Prose Poem: Cinco de Mayo Love Song

Cinco de Mayo (Love Song)   Your lips tasted like Margarita salt and freshly mixed salsa. We danced on the hardwood like two flames licking the air, reaching for the ceiling. I started believing maybe we were actually aflame, and my groin agreed with me. You teased me by playing with my tie as we danced samba, and the mariachi band played tempos that had my heels flaring just like the trumpets as they launched into a fanfare for Mexico. Yet, you waltzed away and out the door, Corona in hand like a troubadour who had wooed you into inebriation. I watched, helpless to avoid your eyes as your nuevo novio eeled his way into your arms. Your eyes read “pardón” as he kissed your cheek, and my eyes flared back an S.O.S. as I stood, aimless and lanky, in the middle of the floor, dancers whirling around me like the many-colored wives of Barcelona. You inhaled the wisps of his cigarette and left. My eyes read like billboards, “bienvendida a la soledad”.
