About Me

I am an award-winning, internationally published writer & poet, who believes the purpose of art is to awaken -- meaning, among other things, that art & spirituality are corresponding disciplines and a life-long work of self-cultivation. My novel WHEN THE SONG LEFT THE SEA has just recently been released: available at Amazon & at The-Way-of-Art.com, among the usual retailers. Also, it is available as an E-book. Other titles include: LEAVING BLUE MOUNTAINS (poems); SLEEPERS IN TRANSLATION (selected poems); and NAMELESS TRAVELER (memoir of an American poet). Numerous limited edition chapbooks, anthologies, featured work, and writing human interest stories for a Florida periodical round out the general picture. I am the founding editor of White Heron Press & White Heron Literary Review. Upcoming projects, nearly complete, include: WAKING THE DREAM ETERNAL (Collected poems); THE DOOR IN THE SKY IS LOVE (An introduction to the works of the great Poet / Saints Rumi, Hafiz, Kabir & Guru Nanak). A second novel, WELCOME TO MY HOLLYWOOD is about half-way to completion. Other projects, including my collected haiku and short poems wait in the wings. I live and work in central California, near the coast; I hope to restart my publishing/book design ventures and offer a venue of integrity for talented but neglected artists from all feasible genres, with an E-Zine & Newsletter mainly for sharing all the marketing & promotion information it took me two years of late-night, intense study to sift through. I had no idea of the work involved 'after' one's book has been published. And the wheel goes round and round. Originally from Virginia, I grew up in the Washington D.C. area. I've lived in Oregon, Florida, Arizona, and the Bahamas. Sorry, I didn't mean to begin a novel here -- lack of sleep makes me giddy and something of a babbling fool. Thank you for your time and I wish you the best in your creative endeavors. kh
