About Me
Note: I'm having a hard time keeping up with all the read requests since I began accepting them. I have 100+ right now, and only a few minutes a day to spend reading. I'll do my best! But I am on here to share my own work also, as I am more of a writer than a critic. If you would like me to read your work, please check out some of mine. Thanks!
My name is Susanna.
I love writing, and have written stories since I could spell. I write mostly fiction and poems, and have had several poems published. For the first time, I am editing some of my stories for publication.
My inspirations:
I love words. I've always had a love of naming. I read a lot of fantasy fiction, which reminds me of dreaming with its poetry, symbolism and archetypal imagery. I use my dreams for story scenes and plots a lot.
Some of the authors who inspire me are Susan Cooper, Michael Ende, Meredith Ann Pierce, Patricia McKillip, Robin McKinley, Ursula LeGuin, JRR Tolkien, Lord Dunsany, George MacDonald, Patricia Wrede, Philip Pullman, Garth Nix, Neil Gaiman, Madeleine L'Engle, Zilpha Keatley Snyder, Phyllis Whitney, William Sleator, Richard Peck, Sylvia Cassedy, Lynn Reid Banks, Frances Burnett, Lloyd Alexander, CS Lewis, Lewis Carrol, Shakespeare, and many more classics.
I am happily married and situated in the Bradshaw Mountains of Arizona with my family: singer/songwriter/guitarist husband, 5 year old son, two goofy dogs, and my trusty Obligatory Writers Cat, Corvus Corax.
Current Projects:
I'm currently working on Baroea, or The Hills Where I Go, is a standalone teen fantasy about a girl who seeks her dead twin brother in the otherworld. Drawing on psychology and fairy folklore, it's not a supernatural romance of the kind that is popular right now. But, I've been getting good feedback from ages 13 to adult, so maybe the time is ripe for a new direction in YA literature. Hope you enjoy.
