About Me

I live in Mildura, Victoria, Australia. Mildura is technically a regional city although 'dustbowl with pretensions of grandeur' is probably more accurate. It is certainly the largest regional town on the Murray River which gives us some respectability. I'm not a country girl no matter how hard I try. I was born in Melbourne and lived thirty years in the eastern suburbs before finally marrying that nice country boy I had been living with for All That Time and looking around for ways to get out of the boring old rut I was in. Buying a house in a town a very long way from anywhere else seemed a pretty good solution. Although I'm not a country girl, I do like living in the country.
I firmly and unequivocally believe that possession of an open and enquiring mind is the greatest gift to have although I would very much like to be able to play the piano as well. The mind is open and the memory near to photographic in its retention of everything except birthdays and work schedules and the due dates of bills. The piano is doomed.
I went to university and discovered that I loved it. I graduated and discovered that the only job I was qualified for was entry level reception work. Ten years later I still work at the front desk although in a different business and with a great deal more insight into... you know... stuff.
I am interested in everything but primarily in history and archaeology, physics, theology, cooking, antiques, upcycling the huge piles of naff clutter my mother in law is finally getting rid of into useful things and getting my daily fix of the written word from my ever expanding library. Also trying to persuade my husband that driving five hours to the nearest Ikea for more bookshelves is the perfect way to spend the weekend.
I am currently owned by two cats: a sleek and saucy little tortie named Princess Tigerlily (Lilthecat for short) and a long legged, painfully lean beige tabby named Doctor Watson (Watto for short) who spends a good deal of time gazing into the middle distance, having transcended beyond the need for conscious thought.
