UNFORTUNATELY, I FEEL THE NEED TO POST THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE:
I heartily enjoy critiquing writings and helping others better their own form of the craft. I encourage anyone who desires honest but constructive critiques to have no reservations about contacting me. Likewise, I greatly appreciate anyone who is willing to read and make courteous, serious, detailed comments about my own work.
Along that line, I would like to make it clear that no comments I leave on the writings of others are of a malicious nature. I always do my best to be honest and objective in my critiques. If I hated a piece or a writer so much to where I would actually feel like leaving a malicious comment, I wouldn't.
If I don't like a piece of writing, I will make that plain and clear, but I will do so respectfully and as tactfully as I can. I do not appreciate people sending me messages because they are upset that I didn't tickle their ears with a critique I left them. I also do not appreciate people trying to 'get back' at me by leaving a nasty comment on a piece of mine after I have reviewed their work. Anyone who attempts to waste my time with such gestures will have the comment(s) and messages deleted, their account blocked, and, if necessary, their behavior reported.
I enjoy fun, tawdry comments if the occasion is sufficient for such things, but I am a serious writer who wants to get better at writing. I also want to help others get better at writing. If you are posting your work up on the internet on a public forum, you need to be prepared for the implications of doing that. If you don't want people seriously reviewing your work, do not post it on the internet on a website designed for reading and review. Likewise, don't get angry when you fly in a plane, or swim in a pool.
I am always willing to discuss an opinion, a review, whatever. But I demand that it be gone about in a mature, honest and polite manner. Please do not attempt to waste your or my time with immaturity and nonsensical businesses. I have more important things to do in my life then to be sweating about flame wars on the internet, and I hope you do, too.
Now that that nasty bit of business is out of the way...
I like lots of boring philosophical and theological things, reading, music, art, poetry, quiet walks in pretty places, under seventy degree temperatures, helping people, anti-authoritarianism (for a good cause, naturally) and lots of other stuff that doesn't involve drugs or booze.
I've had a few things published here and there--newspaper, literary magazines--but nothing too big. Writing is something I'd like to do as more of a side project than anything else; I don't feel the spiritual calling involved in getting into writing full time. At least at this point in my life.
My first poetic influence was E.E. Cummings. I find his use of typography to make a statement uncanny and inspiring.
I've read a decent bit of poetry, mostly from Cummings, here on WC & other sites and scattered examples from English Lit class. My poetry style is pretty much my own, and it can mainly be divided into three categories: spoken word, rhyming and un-rhyming. There are a number of subcategories of the latter two, none of which I will list; feel free to read through my work if you wish to delve into that fracas.
I would eventually like to be working with the orphans and with AIDS-stricken communities in east Africa, specifically Uganda. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies and am continuing my schooling with a focus on scholarly Biblical Studies, Church History and Religion. I would like to one day build schools for said Ugandan communities.
Perhaps one day I will chronicle my future adventures in Africa. Who knows?
