I love to write! It's the best form of creative self-expression next to art. My name is Karen Pearl Sharpe and my nom de plume is Sydelle Houston which means basically, "temptress from a mountain town." I've been writing for over 30 years in various genres including non-fiction and used to have my own astrological column in a couple of weekly newspapers in New York. The best practice was letter writing and journal entries. However due to a flood, my journals written in cartridge pen ink were ruined -- rainbows in bound books. Talk about heartbreaking!
I've settled into writing erotic romance and would like to submit stories to Ellora's Cave so I can give my work the title of "Romantica." Couldn't write a poem to save my life, but I know what I like when I read it. I get a lot of read requests from people who write poetry, and to be honest, I'd rather review stories.

In 2007, I decided to try my hand at NANOWRIMO which is the acronym for National Novel Writing Month (always held in November) where you need to complete a 50k word novel in a month. That was the hardest test of my talents yet. This past year 2008 was much easier because I used a well-thought-out chapter breakdown and character checklists. I had a little help this year from my RWA-NYC chapter sisters who decided to attempt NaNoWriMo along with me. RWA stands for Romance Writers of America, and I am a member of the national organization as well as the NYC chapter. After submitting a few chapters in varied contests, I've been told to continue to pursue my writing career, just watch the sentence structure! I can't help writing the way I talk!
