I am waiting for Writers Cafe to give me the option of "collection" so until then I keep my writing stored in "books"...I am obssesive compulsive when it comes to organization...then again, I figure making one click is easier than scouring through pages

A POEM WRITTEN FOR A.J. AND ME...A THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART TO FRAN MARIE FOR EXPRESSING OUR LOVE SO ELOQUENTLY!
Invictus by William Ernest Henley are the words that inspire me everyday.
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of Circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of Chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Which Poet are you? Quiz Created on GoToQuiz |
I cherish the spiritual writings of C.S. Lewis (The Problem of Pain, The Screwtape Letters, The Great Divorce)...I am a literature junkie...especially American Literature...I will read anything written by Hawthorne, Eliot, Whitman, Hemingway, Wilde, Emerson, Faulkner, Hawthorne, Tolstoy etc...I am always inspired when I have the opportunity to read Rilke or Rumi...A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf or The Stranger by Albert Camus would be some of my all time favorites. Paradise Lost by John Milton has probably left the biggest impact on me. I am happy that I was able to conjure up the patience to read Anna Karenina because that is where my love flourished for Tolstoy.
OLD MAN AND THE SEA by Hemingway...I believe this is a written work that has a way of renewing the spirit. THE GREAT GATSBY by Fitzgerald...I believe is one of the greatest love stories ever written. A ROOM OF ONE'S OWN by Woolf...I absolutely love this book because it mirrors the idea of dealing with the veracity of truth to get what one wants out of life. THE STRANGER by Camus...I love existential thought and this book embodies the theory of the absurb.
At times, you will find a creative nonfiction book in my hand...writers such as Judy Blunt, Mary Karr, Frank McCourt. However, my interests are diverse and my curiosity has led me to read Metaphyical Club and Pragmatism by Louis Menand (both books recommended by my philosophy professor), Beyond Belief by Elaine Pagels (who I had the privilege to hear speak at Duquesne University) and Finding Darwin's God by Kenneth Miller (a beautifully written book I stumbled upon).
In the wee hours of the night, you will find me in my jammies tucked away in the corner at my desk...WRITING. I discovered my writing talent at the age of 40...scenic route to becoming a Professor of Literature. My God given gift seems to be in creative nonfiction, but I am having a lot of fun finding my poetic voice.
God only knows what I did right, but I have been published twice and won an award for my creative nonfiction which I am very proud of the accomplishment. I pursue perfection in my writing...I figure if I keep working at this I am bound to get it right at some point...I am a graduate student in pursuit of my MFA.
