time flies

time flies

A Poem by annie lee
"

the measure of our days

"

time to set the clock

time to go to bed

time to feed the dog

time to wash the car

time to mow the grass

time to pay the bills

time to waste

money to burn

time to lick the stamps

oh

we don’t do that anymore,

do we?

think of all the things we don’t do

anymore,

little tasks that have been streamlined

into inconsequential motions.

time to face the music

time to pay the piper

time to rise and shine

time to walk away

time to cut your losses

time to count your blessings

what does time look like?

like the wind?

like a glacier?

it all depends on your vantage point.

the young see it as the glacier,

huge and icy, movement

barely perceptible.

those of us who have raced

the glacier for a while

see it like the wind,

inexorable like the glacier,

but swift like the wind

and jostling us

on our path,

reminding us of who is in charge.

time to spare

no time to spare

time to call his bluff

time to spill the beans

time is the shadow

of our future.

he draws rings in the trunks of trees.

he draws rings under our eyes.

time is our enemy.

time is our friend.

time is the tool

we are given.

how we use it

determines its value.

time to go

and it takes "time" to understand the meaning behind a poem such as this. I may not be old by some standards. But at 34, I now realize time slows down for nobody. Time has no expectations and requires nothing from us accept more time.

Not really a fair trade is it? If time would barter with us...what would we give back?

Oh wow! I love this muse. This rocks. I love thinking about time.

According to a lot of ancient cultures (such as the South American Maya who were obsessed with it) time operates cyclically or like a spiral based on the movements of the heavans. In our modern society we are conditioned to accept time only in a narrow materialistic sense as linear and rational and broken up into very tiny peices to suit the necesseties of our modern industrial civilisation.

According to the teachings of those ancient cultures that are alive today, a great deal of the world's problems would vanish very quickly if we re-integrated the concept of cyclic time because then we would once more be in harmony with the much larger energetic patterns of the planets, the stars and the universe as a whole. In a way of speaking, our bodies and minds are imprisioned by the concept of linear time. However many people have awakened to this fact and are trying to relate differently to time as often as they can. And the difference in their health, happiness and creativity is never short of amazing!

Seems you are very much intuitively understanding the holes in the concept of linear time already. I hope this gives you some more of the insight that you seek. If you need to know anything more don't hesitate to get in touch.

Warmest regards.

As a race we needed to invent time but the monster has taken over just like all the good old horror movies. Time to think and time to reflect after reading this.

what a wonderful poem it was my dear friend:)
i completely enjoyed reading everything and each word in this piece:) truly, nothing more can define time more clearly and wonderfully as this:)

and these lines were the essence:

time is our enemy.
time is our friend.
time is the tool
we are given.
how we use it
determines its value.
time to go

this was all that incredibly completed the wonderful end...:)

very very well done:)

best wishes

Time is precious, some tend to use it wisely and other poorly. I never realized how many little saying there actually were using the word time.

Some philosophical questions you are asking. What is time? How should we use? Does it control us or we controlled by us. Tool or task-master, and wrapped up in some lovely whimsey. Great one to ponder this one is. Thank you, Annie.

A wonderful poem. Time is like a double-edged sword . Some people benefit from it , some waste it. Some ride the train and some miss the train and its too late in their life...Splendid...:)

I understand...You are welcome...:)
Excellent! I really enjoyed how many different expressions involving time you fit in, they really show how central it is to our lives.. And of course, they give the final few words even greater power- looks well thought out
