A Poem by annie lee
"

"

i am no longer

young.  my eyes see the world so

differently now.

music is inside me, not

without.  i do not hunger

for the thrill of

the great unknown -- the trembling and

tremulous tomorrows

for which i could hardly wait.

young i may no longer be

but old is too hard.

even if you nobly try

to walk head held high

old will knock you down chuckling

“ain’t it time for your nap?”    yes

I do not hunger for the thrill of the great unknown -- the trembling and tremulous tomorrows for which i could hardly wait...

Perspective is a funny thing; when I am reminded of the dreams of my youth, I am inclined now to say "What was I thinking..."

I like the way you present this simple bit of reality, and the little twist of humor at the end. :)

i totally relate to this piece, being of that age...you feel it is over, but you don't want it to be...yet you don't have the drive or energy to start all over, or go after some things...you just would like things to stay steady.

love this poem.

Time can be our worst enemy, reminding us of our mortality, but it can also be our friend, granting us gifts of wisdom and knowledge that are mainly acquired in time. Beautiful poem!
