A Little Slam Poetry

Random urge to write out a little frustration towards school.

This is absurd

In other words

I’d enjoy watching it burn

Everything we learn

Isn’t something we yearn

Teachers’ eyes all stern with fake concern

Their mouths vomit facts

Facts lacking interest

Students end up on Pinterest

Facts expected to be remembered

For a contest

To see who remembers best

See who rises above the rest of the class

And does not trespass

On shortcut’s territory

No

It will be called cheating

It will gnaw on you, eating

Away your fleeting status

I would enjoy watching it burn

School in flames

The place where social chains

Start and grow, enabling pain

I hope the rain doesn’t drain the flame

That covers the place of hate where we wait

And get irate at the too-full plate

They expect us to finish at a too fast rate.

I completely get this, I love learning but school can do more damage than good sometimes. Schools really compare kids too much and I think it can be detrimental.

It really can be. I'm homeschooled and I can't take it. I feel like I am still competing against others. And, what doesn't help is that I found out recently that one of my semester tests doesn't even test us on the material learned and, at the moment, the class is not holding any interest so I have 0 motivation to do the work anymore. It sucks and some of the things they force us to do is so pointless. Like, it's meaningless. It is nothing more than a waste of my time and I don't want to deal with it. I mean, I could be learning other, more useful things, like how to manage my money or how to, you know, know things useful that can be used in everyday life. Most of the things they give us we only have to keep in out memory long enough to pass the class then we forget most of it because it's of no use to us anymore. It was a fleeting presence needed to pass with a good grade.

Yeah i just graduated high school this year, and I'm going off to uni in a few weeks. I still feel pressure but hopefully less than high school was. The teenage years are hard enough without pressure from school, but you'll get through. I wish you the best!

I'm actually trying to graduate a year early at the end of this month and it's been putting so much pressure on me. I only have an English class left and I've noticed, over the years, the classes keep repeating themselves and it's like, if there is nothing else to teach us, stop trying to force it. You know?
