Loss Clock

Loss Clock

A Poem by DaniElle LaPointe
"

exlporing grief through free form

"
>the sun refuses to rise and fall according to my pain
and now I’ve stowed away on
three trips around that glowing orb
I scribble grief words
As they surface without use of voluntary muscles
pulled from me by this force
rolling around me
thick and solid
not a wind
but a specific gravity
bringing me to my
broken knees
chapped and scarred

I am at a loss
I am at loss
you went through a windshield little brother
so now I go through
one with you everyday

glass shards and all…

piercing my memories
moments when the sun lit
your eyes
and painted you tan
that damn burning star
distant
pulling

I’ll set my clock
to something
else

sorry to hear about the loss.... i actualyl read this poem twice. I waned to make sure absorbed everything, and i'm glad i did... it was the lines I am at a loss, and the revealing of your brother.. that made me think, maybe i should go back and read the begginning now that i know that. I like how it captivated me, then made me want to understand more. very emotional piece your heart is exposed. thank you for sharing

This was a wonderful and heartbreaking piece. The first line especially intrigued me, and the rest of the poem followed suit. Thank you for submitting it to my poetry contest and congratulations on placing with this wonderfully tragic piece. I'm so sorry for your loss.

This is so sad, Danielle. The windshield and glass shards lines were hard ones to read and I know they were horrible to write. I am so sorry for your loss. I always find that writing it out does help. Keep doing it. Angi~

The agony you were experiencing come out in full force in this poem, DaniElle. I am a lucky guy in that I didn't end up like your brother, I had my brushes with death that is a natural face. Don't know what prompted your brother to retreat into the streets, and I am very sorry he was taken away from you and others who loved him.

I can relate to this and it reminds me of losing my best friend some years ago. When those we love leave us, people who care the most are the ones who inherit the energy left behind. That inherited burden comes with reliving the pain your loved one endured while still on Earth.

You bared all in this honest and touching piece. I loved "I'll set my clock to something else." - Since the sun is not on your emotional timeline, you'd rather not see it when woken. Superb.

A very sad poem. The poem took me on a journey into your thoughts. Good and bad memories become part of us. They are like clocks. Awake us up to what is really important. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poem.

My eyes grew damp upon reading this...I'm terribly sorry that this happened...as one who's dealt with untimely loss on a regular basis, I am struck to the bone by this piece...stunning work.

Grieving losses tend to happen when we least expect them. Great job illustrating that theme within your well written poem. Great job again. :)

A world torn apart by the grief of loss. Well portrayed in a flowing free verse.
