My Friend has a Secret (3)

My Friend has a Secret (3)

A Chapter by AloysiaVerben
"

Simon's friend isn't telling him something.

"

My morning was turning out to be the strangest I've ever had. And that's after the conversation I'd had with Greg and my Mum last night.

As I walked through the gates of my school with my friend Abbie I told her about the rabbit incident and the Gift.

'It's all so strange, he says he has to train me and "Find the others". There's only about six people in the world with shreds of the gift and he expects to find them?'

I shoved my bag into my locker and looked to Abbie in desperation.

'I think he's insane, I really do. Those people could be scattered in New york, Hongkong, beijing, anywhere! and he hasn't even left the couch!' I slammed the door of my locker shut after taking out my books for history. Great. That's just what I needed. A dead boring history lesson from Ms Mayer.

'I'm sorry Abbie, I'm complaining. This must be a lot for you to take in, I mean, you have a magic best friend.' I sighed and gave her my best 'sorry for telling you I'm some kind of freaky magician guy I understand if you want to cry' look. Abbie stared at her feet guiltily and I began to wonder whether she needed to throw up.

'Look, Simon, there's something I haven't told you' She looked at me pleadingly and gently shut her locker, which was next to mine. She looked like she expected to be hit and had tears in her eyes.

'About the Gift, and Greg, and everything' she whispered. Wait- The Gift. I'd never used that name, I'd only said magic or freaky spell thingy.

'Greg came to see me when I was nine. I- I don't know how to tell you this, but, I-. Greg doesn't have to go to New york, or Hongkong, or Beijing.' She bit her lip nervously and my eyes widened in disbelief.

'You're not telling me that you - you're- you can.' I choked on my own words, 'You-No way- this, Magic?' I finished lamely. and Abbie nodded shyly.

    'Yeah. Magic.'

* * *

Finding out that out of six people in the world who had the gift one of them was my best friend, obviously it stunned me. I'd known her since preschool. How did I never notice that she had the gift? The rest of the day my mind was nowhere near school. I thought back to our primary school. The one we'd both been kicked out of. We'd set the teachers lounge on fire after a particularly unfair homework assessment- not on purpose of course. There had been times when Abbie had been able to convince people to do things that no one would ever do. Then I remembered how most schools I'd gotten kicked out of, she had too. Usually because we were considered 'partners in crime' and the ones she hadn't been kicked out of at the same time as me she'd left soon after.

'You knew I had the gift?' At lunch I interrogated her about everything I didn't know about her, which apparently, was a lot.

'Greg told me about a great magician, one who would start and end a war. I didn't know it was you until he turned up and told me, less than six months ago. He said I could never tell you. Not until you found out for yourself. I'm sorry, I wanted to tell you. I really did.'

'One who would start and end a war?' Great. Now I was some kind of soldier in a magical war.

    'He wouldn't give me details'

I sighed. Greg was going to answer some questions during our first schedeulled class this afternoon.

'Come to my house this afternoon, Greg's staying there, has he "trained" you yet?' I asked just before the bell for the last period rang.

'No, he always said, 'You need to be trained with him, you have an important part to play' I'll come at four'

Without another word we headed into the building to suffer through an hour and a half of maths.

Hey everybody :D
I don't think I've told anyone why Simon's name is Simon.
His name is Simon because in every book I read Simon was either the bad guy or died and I thought- wow poor Simons, he deserves to be a good guy. So he is. :)
So, tell me what you thinks
