At Last, At Least

At Last, At Least

A Poem by Adam Greenfield

Lying in bed at night
is when I let my world wander
from the red hair girl next door
to the one before her
so my world wobbles
on its flimsy axis
and spins counter-productive
to the time of day.

I know I need my rest
but my best days
are around here somewhere.

If I never find them
I hope one day
I can rest at last
at least
because my past
won’t let me sleep
with its weeping widows
and creeping Charlie
chasing away the stray sundogs.

its like youre climbing into my mind speaking eloquent the things that color my day to day, but I suspect youre doing that to all of us, touching on the truths that though we all differ greatly in perspective will never alter at, at our bases, you do it delicately too, and clearly.

wow... this is great

I know I need my rest
but my best days
are around here somewhere.

If I never find them
I hope one day
I can rest at last
at least
because my past
won't let me sleep
with its weeping widows
and creeping Charlie
chasing away the stray sundogs.

i know that's half the poem but i love it. it's so different to your other work, the language and elusive nature of it... i could read it over and over and get something different every time.

"Lying in bed at night

So true, it starts with the thoughts of such, then imagination takes over to a trip of what next.
