# SHIFTING SHADOWS

# SHIFTING SHADOWS

A Poem by anonymous_at
"

There are times when someone passes by our side and we don't feel any different about that person but that person is actually fighting a battle with self to fight the shifting shadows.....

"
There's a girl,
who lives in the shifting shadows.....
fighting a battle with herself and on her own!

She wears smile effortlessly on her lips every day
just as;
she hides her dark past from everyone!
and they say she's a great artist...
no doubt she must be;
'cause
she had changed all her screams
to pretty tattoos...

She always fights for others bravely
just as;
she had always fight off her demons!
and they say she's a great artist...
no doubt she must be;
'cause
she had changed all her moans
to sweet laugh...

She stubbornly never trusts any compliments she gets
just as;
she would always find a reason to live!
and they say she's a great artist...
no doubt she must be;
'cause
she being a warm-blooded animal was
the cold-blooded monster within.....

There's a girl,
who lives in the shifting shadows.....
fighting a battle with herself and on her own!
which no one knows about...........

You are a fine wordsmith and how all words clash and share space for each other with their own meanings like for example Line "she would always find a reason to live! shows Independence warrior of life. Yet throughout your poem is very thoughtful and felt alot of empathy for passersby never know what souls are going through only trying to live best of their abilities and responsibilities mixed with love and careful crafted yearning to survive. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger yet still in pain. It's very thought provoking and loved every word. keep writing sincerely your friend in poetry and life . ps " Sometimes one feels freer speaking to a stranger than to people one knows. Why is that? Probably because a stranger sees us the way we are, not as he or she wishes to think we are." Carlos Zafon

sometimes we can help others, and are good at it, but we cannot help ourselves...trust can be hard to attain.
This is that confessional style like the Beats...
and I especially like " she had changed all her screams to pretty tattoos...."
that is a very clever and visual line.

these lines particularly struck me:
"she had changed all her screams
to pretty tattoos..." ... reading on you repeat the same idea in different ways but those first really hit me as to who this girl in the shadows is. I think you are right about people relating to it. We have all had to put on our smiles and "perform" through the day though our hearts were far from feeling happiness. For me you poem speaks to the masses and the homeless ... those struggling with mental and emotional turmoil ... intent on our own self important day we walk right on by ... ignorant of the trauma and shadows brushing our shoulders ... i think there is some might fine "stuff" in this, Anonymous! thanks for sharing

I like this one very much. Yes many a time we fight with our shifting shadows and that is very internal. But at the end it is your fight to give justice to whatever you believe! Life is a passing state and so does the shadows...

Indeed we encounter many people as we progress through life and never know their story. Some suffer, many suffer and you capture this well in this piece. The repetition works well!

Must agree with you. Shifting shadows or lifting the burden of uncertainty in life, always haunts us a lot.

It's something that people don't really think about. That everyone is fighting their own battles, and not everyone shows it. Very well written. Well done
