Consumerism

Consumerism

A Poem by Akshay
"

Oh, the modern age

"
Step outside, darling
What do you see?
Mothers shouting, children crying
All they want is what they don't have
All they have is things they don't need

Look around, baby
What do you want?
Things that provide a therapeutic harmony
No sense of purpose, you don't know what you sought
The things inside your handbags have you in their grasp

Look at what I've got you, honey
Flowers that don't send a rush to your brain
What if I bought you something from the money I had saved for me
Diamonds that'll get stolen by someone who wanted to keep his daughter sane

Look at what you have, sugar
You have all the things that you want to discard
You gambled all your money on things you do not want
You live alone with imperfection you have not bought

So true. Acquisitions that a bought purely as a status symbol, but have little practical value. The latest trainers, computers and cars, that offer virtually no advantage over the older possesion.
You have summed this up so well in your last stanza.
More people should read it - and heed it.

Wow, I really like this poem. I feel like we kill ourselves to buy things we don't really need. Just to fill some void. Its all just vanity at the end of the day. Really awesome poem, great job.
