Losing It All

I held you in my arms as the poison did its job

The tears fell from my eyes as your love slipped away

They would never take you from me

We would be together forever

A love like ours would grow stronger in death

I know you will forgive, I know you will still love me

Slip away my love

Slip away

I read this one many times.
On one hand, I like the fact that this is open to interpretation.

But then I'm curious too. What was going through your mind when you wrote? What was the story in your thoughts.

I'm glad you did not chose to expand here as it would've taken more space and hence not qualified for the contest. But I'd suggest that you add more to this. This sounds like the beginning of an excellent plot.

Thanks for participating in the contest.

Such a powerful piece. It made me think of two lovers; where one is suffering a slow death, and the second is lovingly releasing them... Congrats, on the win!
