Still-Life: Pear

Still-Life: Pear

A Poem by Alessander

I am not a windshield wiper
You can flip off-and-on
When the first gray drops splash
Across your heart
At dawn

I am not a pillow
You can smother when
Darkness and despair spreads
From your toes to your head
Then toss aside
For breakfast

I am not a d***o
You can flop out a drawer
To escape your hysteria
To make your eyes roll back
Into oblivion
Then dropped to the floor
Ex post facto

Love is not a drag race
Two greasers smoking rubber
Motors rumbling - mufflers spitting fire
Blazing down an empty strip
Laughing, moaning, screeching
Off a cliff of desire

No, love requires banality
The breath between kisses
It needs lunches and tooth brushes
Afternoon yawns
Cleaning dorrito crumbs
Playing board-games at fiestas
Hospital visits, morning runs

This is what makes love full and ripe
And not merely a hallowed husk
Of longing, hunger and lust
Of faint perfume and bruises
It is a still-life pear
Green and simple
A tinge of red - there
By the kitchen window
Absorbing soft sunlight
In muted glow

Thanks, ayesha.

Glad you took the time to read and comment.
As nice as drag races and d****s are it's still very sad you need to clarify that you are not. Your pain shines through well.

Hopefully, it's a muted love :)

very lovely.... Mr. wiseone :)
true we all need that person who understands love is not just when we need the other person.. its a process of growing together...learning small likes and dislikes... understanding each others unspoken words... and bringing smile to the other person without them realizing it...
simple evening walks...watching the sunsets... sweet kisses...snuggling under the blankets... fighting for the bed space... lol...i can go on and on... :P

but seems like finding "the person" is the most difficult part haha always end up finding some d****s here and there ;)

i thoroughly enjoyed reading this one..

Guess they don't bring along heart break that's the plus point .... ;)
oooh what a lovely, clever write - from pillows to breath and all in between - what? you mean you are not my d***o? bugger!

I very much enjoyed the jaunt through love here - it's like you are talking to an immature woman who always wants her own way, but in truth love is every way, just like the breath, it's always there, you just need to acknowledge it.

This made me smile - great descriptions, wonderful metaphors X Nice one my friend X
