Still-Life: Pear

Still-Life: Pear

A Poem by Alessander

I am not a windshield wiper
You can flip off-and-on
When the first gray drops splash
Across your heart
At dawn

I am not a pillow
You can smother when
Darkness and despair spreads
From your toes to your head
Then toss aside
For breakfast

I am not a d***o
You can flop out a drawer
To escape your hysteria
To make your eyes roll back
Into oblivion
Then dropped to the floor
Ex post facto

Love is not a drag race
Two greasers smoking rubber
Motors rumbling - mufflers spitting fire
Blazing down an empty strip
Laughing, moaning, screeching
Off a cliff of desire

No, love requires banality
The breath between kisses
It needs lunches and tooth brushes
Afternoon yawns
Cleaning dorrito crumbs
Playing board-games at fiestas
Hospital visits, morning runs

This is what makes love full and ripe
And not merely a hallowed husk
Of longing, hunger and lust
Of faint perfume and bruises
It is a still-life pear
Green and simple
A tinge of red - there
By the kitchen window
Absorbing soft sunlight
In muted glow

love isn't the romantic fantasy some look for and never find...they get bored with it....
real love is still life....it is real life...it is the mundane as well as the sexy...

i like the analogies you use in this...and how you drop into the ending so nicely with the last couple stanzas giving the reality..

Simplicity is an important thing to embrace and appreciate, as it's such a crucial facet of human relationships. You captured that really nicely here, while adding a personal/emotional edge that really contributes to the overall message. Great work as usual!

Interesting translation
Your give and go's swung parallel like a revolving door
You brought into play reality and matched well your words to the context of your script

Well written my friend

Thanks, Ezel.
Much appreciated.
I like that this version of love is more than superficial cupid stigmata. It seems that one of those arrows might have went straight for the heart. Good show.

working on that
Every time i read your work man...full of alive and heartfelt words and deep seeded knowledge. "Escape your hysteria" is the line that stood out for me this time, to me it stands as the theme. Brilliant again!

It truly is the little things that leave the largest imprint. It's enough to just gaze upon the one you love as he's sleeping or to press a little love note close to your heart. It ripens with time and becomes impervious. There's enough starkness here to grab the reader's attention but enough softness to emit love's glow. Very well penned.

I'm only starting to read your stuff and already find it reason enough to justify having joined this odd site. Do a little digging and I bet there's more.
