Buried Strength

Buried Strength

A Poem by Lavi

"Like living suddenly required a license to breathe"

I fought for so long, I swear I did

Never let anyone in, never let anyone know

The honesty that left me with nothing good

So I tucked it away, let it fester and grow

Until there was nothing left but empty lies

For my strength came from the belief

That I had no one left to show my eyes

I lived because I no longer cared about my grief

But then I lost it all; my breath, my mind, my soul

Let myself get caught in someone's web

They took my resolve and tried to make me whole

Instead they took what mattered most and threw it in their cobweb

I was terrified of losing control, losing myself, losing what made me - me

So I took desperate measures and tried to fight back

But it was too late for me to see

That I had no strength to attack

I felt cornered and chained

Like living suddenly required a license to breathe

I felt so constrained

That it left me drowning in their seethe

So never corner those who no longer care

You don't know how long their strength has carried

And if you meet their empty stare

You'll find what's been left buried there

Lavi, your poem is devastating and so filled with pain. Your eloquent words give us a look into your soul and its suffering...you tried, you tried - ...”And if you meet theiir empty stare, you’ll find what’s been left buried there.”- powerful, indicting. Great language, form, flow, cadence, rhyme. Sometimes ‘they’re’ just not worth it, but YOU ARE.:)

WOW! WOW! And WOW! This is gut-wrenching powerful! I haven't read something this intense & so well conveyed, in a long time. I love the way you convey intensity without making it dramatic. These are just level statements of personal truth, nothing pumped up, but just simply powerful on their own merits. This is the meaning of the phrase: "Trust your material" which you've done perfectly here. I have felt this way many a time & there are a few stellar lines that every writer wishes they had written:
"Like living suddenly required a license to breathe" . . .
and this is the crux of how it feels to be ready to explode:
"So never corner those who no longer care
You don't know how long their strength has carried
And if you meet their empty stare
You'll find what's been left buried there"
I'm in awe of this writing! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
