A Poem by Lavi

To pay the toll of existence.

There's a sorrow deep in my soul
Whispering to me the price of my toll
Like a cigarette on a rainy night
It's corroding smoke the only thing keeping me upright

I don't know why I'm always longing
Why I'm always after a sense of belonging
Perhaps it's the anger that lurks in the shadows
That wants nothing more than to knock over my barriers like dominoes

At the same time, I no longer feel trapped
Kind of like a bird who no longer has its wings snapped
Whose freedom had been gone so long
That it no longer knew how to fly and belong

There's a sorrow deep in my soul
Whispering to me the price of my toll
Like a girl who wanted to survive
But didn't know how to feel alive

Haha, thank you so much :) First stanza set up the flow nicely I think. I appreciate your thoughts.
I think this poem is genius, Lavi. My interpretation is you had to pay the tolls through a life's journey. Some expensive and other mundane and small. you made it, but you are confused as which way to continue. I hope I'm not to far off. Well done! Best wishes!

I've been writing a long time, since early childhood but didn't find my passion for writing my own poetry until I was 13 or 14 while going through hardship. Poetry has been my outlet and one of the fe.. more..
