When at night you go to sleep You might be surprised to know The little creatures that you keep Sneak out to put on a show
Little Milly the tubby tumbler Wears her fancy tumbler pants A silly kitty is wee little Milly As she does her tumbling dance
And you may think your Guinea Pig Is afraid of big tall heights But she can walk a thin high wire Dressed in her purple tights
The flashlight there beside your bed Shines upon a shoe box stage And here comes little Timmy Tuba Out from his hamster pet cage
Bouncing Betty bunny sure is funny Telling her hop hop jokes And did you know a goldfish can juggle Without breaking any egg yolks
And proud Mary that sweet soul canary That bird can sure sing you know The ants from the farm, crawl up on your arm The best seats in the house for her show
The mice come to the party too Bringing their wine and cheese Squirrels peek in from outside your window Dancing on the branches of trees
As moon starts to set and sun starts to rise The creatures return to their places So that when you wake up and open your eyes You'll not see their mischievous faces
They'll be so tired and will sleep all day long And you'll just think they are lazy Creatures playing all through the night? Well now, that just sounds much too crazy.
I love this poem! I love the playfulness & your sing-song timing. Your rhyming is tight & some verses have that bouncy-fun limerick feel of rhyme & rhythm. I love writing about nonsensical creature get-togethers, but you've got me beat by a mile. I need to write a poem about what all the critters are doing inside my neighbors' houses, while evacuated becuz of fire! Thanks for the inspiration. I love how your imagination goes so far outside the dots with vivid descriptions & dynamic action! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Have a great day/night/other.
a late night frolic...much fun, as the animals act like the Marx Brothers....and then during the day, sleep lazily...making us wonder if they ever do anything at all..
my friend has a kitty...hides in one room all day...and then bam...night comes and she is down the stairs and having the time of her life.

I knew they came alive at night!
Thanks Jacob!
This is great. Frothy, fantasy, magic. I love how the end gives an explanation for their seemingly lethargic behavior. Bravo on this one. Neat, sweet piece.
