i wonder if my time has come
have i lingered in this life too long
where did it go wrong
  where did it not
i could never quite tell if i was getting ahead
or if i was clawing my way out
it was always too close to call
i could chase a butterfly and run into a bee
always blind sided by things i couldn't see
now i want to put everything away
lay down the apples and the violets and all the rest
lay them to rest
 i need to rest
everything that ever was a part of me
must be laid to rest forever within me
 forever with me
i have lingered here in this life too long
i do believe my time has come
 to move on

the domino effect of life, where we try and try, yet it feels like we are moving backwards and worse off than before. Then little niggles become bigger and bigger, until they consume all our energy and leave us not knowing if we are coming or going. Truly a place I wouldnt wish on an enemy.
Your words are beautiful, even if the reason behind them is not.

very sad -- depression and resignation, it sometimes swallows us whole ...

indeed it does. such a difficult thing
I would chase a butterfly and run into a bee.

That line tells me much about the sheer frustration of life at times. It can be overwhelming on occasions. Poignant and beautiful words Ana.

You are welcome Ana.
I understand why you feel the doubt.
Close your eyes,
and rest for a little while.

Your time has not come little one.

You will have your doubts,
but visions of beauty still wait.
Each one new,
waiting for your wandering eye.

Sleep for awhile,
knowing the early morning will show a different view.
Your time is still not due.

Jon, I am sorry I missed this beautiful comment.
Thank you so much!
So poignant and lovely; how very sad, like a movie that makes you cry cathartic tears.
That being said, I do hope that this was written simply for art's sake.
I know that I have no intention of laying down 'the apples and the violets and all the rest'.
When my time comes, they may tumble to the floor, as I must, but until that times comes,my hands--in fact, my ARMS--will be filled with all these good things, and more.
A beautiful piece of work, Ana.

Good to know. Be well, friend.
dear. Ana... the violets will still bloom in the Spring..
Birds will still nest in the Apple tree with the busy bees.
I will still look for your poetry in the flowering trees...
In the meantime we will rest and count our years in
memories of Yule logs burned and butter churned...
Your poem has lulled me into fragments of love lost
and new beginnings pasted in scrapbooks where
mice have slept by candlelight... and blue birds sing
by moonlight. You may just have more time to rhyme. truly, Pat
