Egotist

Egotist

A Poem by Anand Sehgal

I prefer to maintain the royal silence ,
until I see the algorithms made by somebody else
marking keywords in my compositions,
on their own ,
courtesy to their makers' brains,
which I feel do not exist at all.
Without knowing the weight
I want to put on certain words,
they always pick up something else
to declare as the pivot.
As I am more aware now,
about the futile fate of useless arguments ,
I love to avoid skirmishes,
which is why I ignore the Pundits
with a silent smile .
And quite naturally ,
the people who didn't ever understand me,
my thoughts;
assume the roles of experts overnight
only to call me an 'Egotist' .

I'm not sure if this is where you were going with this piece, but it reminded me why I hated school so much. Teachers never understand people like me...I'm a quiet and shy person, and I don't like speaking up. I had far too many teachers that misunderstood me for that reason...they were just as bad as the idiots I had to go to school with. I wish the world didn't look down on royal silence so much...people get so weird when things are quiet...it's like they just have to say something, and when they do, it's usually gibberish for the sake of noise, when the silence usually articulates an environment or a state of mind much more succinctly. Anyways I ramble, but you can see that this piece certainly resonated with me, and carried much meaning for me...great work :)

I think experience truly teaches us a thing or two...

As I am more aware now,
about the futile fate of useless arguments ,
I love to avoid skirmishes,
which is why I ignore the Pundits
with a silent smile .

You live to fight another day.

Thanks a lot Dear Sera for your kind review
It is better to listen and think in silence than to "run off at the mouth" so to say and be as much a fool as they are!
We are not egotists, we are simply wise!

It is wise to be choosy , isn't it ?
This poem was illuminating. I always say its pointless to argue with a person that doesn't listen. ideas go no where with people like that. Great poem, I could understand and agree with every word.

Thanks Edd, Glad that you felt connected :)
silent smile is more than enough to ignore their misunderstandings. this itself is called as royal silence that depicts ignorance, it is the attitude that keeps hurting situations away, but people call it as "ego" .....
good one :)

People never try to understand others, rather they keep themselves busy justifying their own stand.

absolutely right :)

it does happen at times that the reader takes the lines and feelings to his heart as his experience or understanding and gives new dimensions too.. at times beautiful ones too :)

the people who didn't ever understand me,
my thoughts;
assume the roles of experts overnight

it does happen that a few people do not take 'not taking the criticism or comments as they said' lightly and forget that when they call others so, first they themselves are that for they can't digest that their comments is not taken as they wish.

nice composition which every writer or art creator of any form would have felt.

best wishes
