Match Stick

Match Stick

A Poem by Anand Sehgal

A match stick is an institution ,

an anti-institution in its own right as well.

A match-stick is a possibility ,

a germination.

A match stick is a harbinger too.

A match stick is much bigger than its

physical size.

It can define sizes on its own.

Like fire, like water,

A match stick too doesn't have a

defined dimension .

A matchless entity has been  termed as the "match stick" ,

and thus has been created a pseudo-oxymoron.

I forgot to mention indeed,

A Match stick is a literati as well   !

So interesting. I have no idea what any of this means. But that's not a criticism. It's compelling. You write about potential energy, focus almost pathologically on this match stick. The result is some kind of illumination of your frenetic mental state. I can hear your excitement in this, and it's very original. Very compelling stuff here

thanks a lot my friend for the review. An artist is expected to be quite restive at times. :)

thanks a lot my dear friend :)
This made me smile.
So often we fail to really look at these small, every day things...and we miss so very much.
Thank you for giving us a new way to look at a match stick.

Thanks a lot dear. you always encourage me to think something new :)
Guess it all depends who's fingers are striking that matchstick . . . Left in a box, it can lie dormant for a very long time. Much to think about, Anand. Your poetry is always fascinating!

I'm honored. thanks a lot Joyce for your kind comments :)
Very small but can do so very much, create light, ignite a fuse, start a raging inferno or be used as a toothpick. My friend, I know I have made light (pun) of this a bit, but it is an amazing work. Very nicely penned.

Well I'll never look at a matchstick quite the same again. Sharp thought process here, enjoyed Anand!

thanks a lot for your kind words Frieda :)
very clever use and expansion of the word and concept of a 'match stick', i love what you've done here, my favourite lines:
"It can define sizes on its own.
Like fire, like water,"
Very philosophical!
