"Take Two Aspirin And..."

"Take Two Aspirin And..."

A Poem by Chris
"

Was once a sort of standing joke of a CALLED Doctor at midnight saying "Take two aspirin and call me in the morning." for damn near anything that bothered someone.

"

“Take Two Aspirin And…”

At times I miss you terribly,

at times I remember when I didn't -

and please understand,

I'm happier now because I do.

Having had to remember how to breathe

doesn't make it hurt less… but…

at least now

the pain makes sense …ya see?

Chris

Was once a sort of standing joke of a CALLED Doctor at midnight saying "Take two aspirin and call me in the morning." for damn near anything that bothered someone.  Hence the title.

If you imagine yourself sitting on a stonework wall - say at midnight... thinking.  OR Perhaps a pew in a church, a memorial.  OR laying in your bed at 3 AM.  OR at a wake.  Or any of 100's of other places, times.

"…At times I miss you terribly, …" - the world's a cold and darker place with you not here.

"…at times I remember when I didn't - …" - I can still remember how I was, hell - how LIFE was, before we met - empty, silent, lifeless.

"...and please understand,..."  - Sometimes we do speak to our memories - when they matter or are that REAL to us.

"...I'm happier now because I do. ..." -  You made everything ...better, brighter... you just made everything...

Sometimes

...we just whisper and

the wind carries us away -

Gawd alone knows where.

And somedays we might awaken

to sunlight and the taste of lips

softly touching ...ours -

tomorrows to share and live;

and somedays

we might not want to awaken any more -

our bare lips and the cold exhales,

darkened skies and empty hands…

all the silence inside.

Life happens…

people touch us - deeply

and the shadows grow

longer and longer

as the footsteps go silent

and the world doesn’t pause

or leave a tear to show

we were.

Gotta be honest here, Chris. This one is quite impressive as well. Very subtle yet, bold message or output.

It's an adventure following you on your word-journeys, and always worth it. Life is what it is; we just have to do the best we can with what we've got. Always enjoy reading your work, it's like reading another's soul. Thanks for sharing.

I like how you write, it's off-beat and original. Your stream of consciousness style is very cool.

Great. That's why my visits have been few and far between.
Can any of us know if we will make a mark in this life worthy of note? I doubt it but we still dream

You've been away for a fair bit Nancy... hope all is going better.
This reminds me of Edgar Allan Poe. the way its sounds and feels.

What I love about your work is the vulnerability and authenticity I feel from you, which touches me.

If you are good, point me in the direction of great. I think I've stumbled on a gold mine!
You know Chris, your work is like a care package from home when you are away at college. You never know what will be inside but you are so excited to open it and even more excited when it reveals its contents.Yep, that is what I feel when I come here.

Missing is sad but memories help keep it together. Take two poems and write one in the morning. Fantastic my friend.

Sometimes the wind can not carry us far enough away from our thoughts and two aspirin can not erase the pain. What an emotive write. The longing is palpable. Good one, Chris. Lydi**
