"Wishing For Intimacy..."

"Wishing For Intimacy..."

A Poem by Chris
"

Grand River Cafe - A September Morn

"
Your mind sees what the heart misses...
and your eyes see - all the 'fractals'.

"Wishing For Intimacy..."

Another morning flowing
meandering
wistful and wish-full
thought and yet staring - full.

Living through the emptiness -
not a missing... just more than that;
just more than wanting - than unshared,
and yet less than silence...
a need for presence
and even the sense of absence.

I sit watching moments fold
listening to minds echoing
and voices scaled to others' reality...
awaiting - the taste of the air
I breathe
to hold what I don't dream.

The after-image of coffee-induced
awakenings -
a few unmeant smiles... life-weary eyes.
The sound of other mugs rising,
being held -
lightly, softly, care-full-ly,
tightly, barely,
in need of two-handed grasps.

So many eyes
they just slip and slide by -
afraid to be caught
held
or even to pause...
if I catch one will it become
a pair -
will the soul leak and spill
flow into -
...me -
if just for an instant
as, or until - the other wrenches them away.
Will I feel even less - as that
not-me flows out and away
to where their I awaits?

I wonder if a not-me I
will understand my why?
Will they remember at all
for a moment
I smiled
.

The human condition of longing, and to be longed for. Is it ever fulfilled? Crafted masterfully, effortlessly, by the seeker. I applaud the portrait..

Observance, the skill of a master poet. Nice work, Chris.

This makes me think of commuters on the NYC subway. People studiously avoid looking at each other, unless they're speaking with each other, and any accidental eye contact is immediately killed by the simple expedient of raising or lowering the eyes to some other pursuit than making human contact. It's why NYC subway riders must be some of the most literate in the nation, for all the reading they do to avoid eye contact -- newspapers, novels, magazines, textbooks, the panels around the roof of the train car.

Pity they don't know people watching makes some of the best reading around...

SOMETIMES WE ARE BLIND TO THE EYES THAT NEED .. . HOW MUCH CAN WE TAKE IN, FROM ANOTHER SOUL .. SO CLOSE, YET UNTOUCHED AND LONELY .. SCANNING HOPING , SMILING FOR A SMILE .. ..

'will the soul leak and spill
flow into -
...me -'

feelings, emotions, the landscape, the pull and tug of life, described in your own effortless style, what is it we seek when we cannot even communicate over a cup of coffee. Alot of wisdom here and perception about life :)

Intimacy...vulnerability....being willing to be open, exposed, dangling in the air, hushed breaths closely...it's what we all desire yet fear so much. If our eyes meet, will there be a connection? Do I have to become involved? Does it mean something, however insignificant? Will I lose a part of me or give a part of me? Will I take a part of someone else, bearing the responsiblity? Half-shuttered smiles and darting eyes, daring to alight on a whisper of intimacy.

Always a delight my dear, Chris...

The eyes are the windows.... for those able, to really see, looking into the eyes of strangers sometimes tells you more than you intentionally wanted to know. It's all there.
As for the smile, it's the most powerful response a human has. Use it honestly and it works wonders.
In the stream, in the flow, in the gaze. Nice view Chris.

This is a most wonderful piece, thought provoking.
I am such a people watcher, sometimes I embarass myself. haha

I remember that smile :) Some smiles are meant to be remembered
