The Girl Stops and Stands and Stares

The Girl Stops and Stands and Stares

A Poem by Andy East

The girl just stops and stands and stares

No movement, no sound, unawares

An echo of a life, that once was there

And still she stops and stands and stares

Awoken with the Suns warm glare

The walk to school, the sweet fresh air

Smart uniform and ponytail hair

And still she stops and stands and stares

She calls and waits for her friend Claire

Who grabs her coat and down the stair

A savoured game, Truth, kiss or dare

And still she stops and stands and stares

They turn the corner to school where

The crossing guard just isn't there

So off they skip without a care

And still she stops and stands and stares

She didn't see the danger there

The car sped down swerved here, swerved there

The metal beast on her did bear

And still she stops and stands and stares

Her broken body with matted hair

Lay lifeless with a vacant stare

Her soul got ripped right out of there

And so she stops and stands and stares ...
